Dexter: …Hey. [Sees Brian is awake, throws his head back and sighs] You weren’t supposed to wake up. Brian: I guess not. Dexter: Sorry. …Police recorded all your knives as evidence - took a while to find your dinner flatware. Brian: Sterling. I keep it for special occasions. Dexter: Which you are. [Pauses] I can give you more tranquilizer if you want. It’s a service I don’t usually offer. Brian: What, am I one of your victims now? You gonna collect a little sample of Biney’s blood for your slide collection? Dexter: No, you’re not a trophy. But you need to be put down. Brian: Why? Because of your code? Dexter: [Averts his gaze, touches the knives] For the safety of my sister. Brian: She’s not your real sister. She’s a stranger to you and she’ll always be one. I tried to help you by killing her - Dexter:[Interrupts, shouting] I KNOW THAT! Brian sheds a tear. Dexter: You should know this isn’t easy for me. You’ve done more to deserve my knife than anyone. [Touches his forehead to Brian’s, eyes closed.] But you’re the only one I’ve ever wanted to set free. Brian:[Whispers] You’re the one that needs setting free, little brother. Your life is a lie. Dexter grits his teeth and squeezes his eyes shut, making shaking and sobbing noises. Brian: You can never be what - Dexter slices his brother’s neck. Dexter:[Almost in tears] I’m sorry. I can’t hear any more… You were right. Dexter falls into the corner, crying out in pain.
This scene is one of the greatest scenes known to man. Every time I watch it I feel like I want to curl up in the corner with my head in my hands. It gives me the chills. It literally steals my breath away. And I’d never seen it capped before…therefore it was mandatory that I do it.
